Scholarship application opens: September 1, 2023

Scholarship application deadline: May 1, 2024

Eligibility: Applicants to the Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education Scholarship must:

  • Be a female senior student currently attending high school in Jamaica.

  • Be accepted into Shortwood Teachers’ College to pursue a teaching diploma.

  • Have a current grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent).

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) while attending Shortwood Teachers’ College to remain eligible for the Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education Scholarship.

  • Demonstrate commitment to school and community.

  • Show financial need by providing annual household income statement.

  • Provide their most current official high school transcript.

  • Provide a minimum of one professional recommendation (e.g., teacher, school counselor, or principal).

  • Provide a minimum of one recommendation from a non-family member (e.g., supervisor, pastor, community activist, etc.).

  • Provide a one-page typed paper detailing your goals and how the Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education Scholarship can help you achieve them and have a positive effect on your community.

Scholarship Award Amount: Full four-year scholarship to cover tuition, books, and housing at Shortwood Teachers’ College

The scholarship award recipient will be notified no later than June 1, 2024, and an announcement will be posted on the Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education Corporation website.

  • Current high school transcripts with official seal.

  • A recommendation from at least one professional (e.g. teacher, school counselor, or principal).

  • A recommendation from at least one non-family member (e.g., supervisor, pastor, community activist, etc.).

  • Acceptance letter from Shortwood Teachers’ College.

  • One-page, typed essay describing your goals and how the Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education   Scholarship can help you achieve them and have a positive effect on your community.

All professional and non-family letters of recommendation must contain the email address and phone number of the individual writing it. Your application packet must be received by May 1, 2024.

NOTE:  It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit a complete application packet.  The Scholarship Committee will not assume responsibility for and will not attempt to compile materials submitted separately.  An incomplete packet will result in disqualification.  The application and all attachments become the property of Kayon Joy Lindsay Joy of Education Corporation and will be kept strictly confidential.  The scholarship award recipient will be notified no later than June 1, 2024, and an announcement will be posted on the Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education Corporation website.
